Shuktara relegated
Newcomers Shuktara Jubo Sangsad of Narayanganj were relegated from the Citycell Bangladesh League after playing out a 1-1 draw against visitors Chittagong Mohammedan in their last match at the Narayanganj Stadium yesterday.
Shuktara had a miserable run in their first-ever appearance in the professional football league as they managed only four victories, eight draws and lost 12 matches in 24 outings to finish ahead of fellow demotees Beanibazar SC with 17 points from 23 matches, who, however, have a match in hand against Muktijoddha Sangsad on Saturday.
After the barren first-half, Amadi Moses put Shuktara ahead in the 74th minute only to have the lead cancelled out by Lamin Soumah one minute from time to deprive the newcomers from their fifth victory.
Chittagong Mohammedan with 26 points from 24 matches finished seventh behind sixth-placed Brothers Union who are ahead of the Black and Whites of Chittaogng on goal difference.
In the day's other match, Arambagh played out a goalless draw against Farashganj SC to finish fifth with 27 points with six wins, nine draws and as many losses.
Farashganj finished with 23 points with four wins, 11 draws and nine defeats.
