Three killed as train hits autorickshaw
At least three people were killed and two others injured as a train hit an autorickshaw at Banomala level crossing at Dattapara under Tongi in Gazipur yesterday.
The dead were identified as driver Shahin, 22, Delwar, 30 and Jasim Uddin, 35, all from Pubail Haydrabad village under Sadar upazila of the district.
The injured Chan Bibi, 22 and Selim Hossain, 40, were rushed to the Pangu Hospital in the capital.
The incident took place when a Dhaka-bound train from Khulna hit a Tongi-bound autorickshaw near the Tongi railway station. All the victims were autorickshaw passengers. They were going to Tongi Cherag Ali from Sukundibag area.
Sources said the speeding train hit the autorickshaw as it broke down at the level crossing at about 6:00am. The Sundarban express train threw the autorickshaw about 300 yards, killing the three on the spot and injuring two others.
The injured were sent to the Tongi government hospital and shifted to the Orthopaedics Hospital in the capital.
