7 hurt by pirates on Jamuna

At least seven people were injured as pirates attacked a passenger loaded boat at Gabgachi, a Jamuna shoal, Sunday night.
Pirates also looted cash and valuables worth over Tk 1 and a half lakh from passengers.
Police and eye-witnesses said a country boat loaded with about 45 passengers sailed towards Fulchhari ghat in the evening. As the boat reached Gabgachi shoal, several kilometre off Fulchhari police station, about 12 pirates equipped with lethal weapons attacked the passenger boat. They beat up the passengers and snatched away cash, ornaments, mobile phone sets and other valuables and decamped with the booty.
