Fake medicine, saline factories unearthed

A mobile court here on Monday raided a medicine factory and a saline factory and fined those Tk 3 lakh for illegal production.
During the drive the mobile court aided by Rab, drug and BSTI officials found that the factories were manufacturing a number of medicines without permission. Also there were no chemist and quality control. The team also found some fake medicines manufactured by them.
The team on Monday raided Green Plus Pharmaceuticals, a herbal medicine factory at village Buderhat in Sadar upazila and Sadat Food Products at village Gobinda in the municipality area.
"In Green Plus Pharmaceuticals there were no chemist, quality control or equipment required for a drug factory. They even had no list of raw materials. The mobile court also found unhygienic environment in the factory," Md Emam Uddin Kabir, Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Pabna, also the head of the mobile court told this correspondent.
The team fined Green Plus Pharmaceuticals Tk 2 lakh, he added.
The mobile court then raided Sadat Food Products and found that the factory was manufacturing oral saline without permission.
"They were using normal salt in the saline pack. Thy had no machine for calculating the proportion of sodium and potassium," a member of the mobile court said.
The saline factory was fined Tk 1 lakh, he said.
