Shakil signs off with win
FM Abu Sufian Shakil beat Indian Ashutosh Mohapatra in the final round of the 2nd International Open Grand-masters Chess Tournament in Orrisa yesterday to finish 34th with seven points.
Shakil, however, earned his second IM norm from the tournament and was the top player among Bangladeshi participants. Six Bangladeshi players -- FM Mohammad Javed (60th position), FM Minbazuddin Ahmed (66th position), GM Enamul Hossain (72nd position) and Debaraj Chatterjee (82nd position) -- achieved 6.5 points each.
FM Mehdi Hasan Parage with six points and Mohammad Hafizul Islam Chapal with also six points finished 87th and 97th respectively.
In the day's round, Sagar drew against GM Varga Zoltan of Hungary, Razib drew against Indian WGM Soumya Swaminathan, Javed lost to Indian IM Debashis Das, Parag lost to GM Pogorelov Ruslan of Ukraine, Debaraj drew against Indian IM Prathamesh Sunil Mokal and Chapal drew against Indian Panigrahi Manoj Kumar.
