Security has been beefed up in and around Paltan Maidan in the city where BNP will hold its grand rally today.
Some 1700 law enforcers, including 200 Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members, have been deployed at different strategic points in the area yesterday to avert any untoward incidents during the rally.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Walid Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said they installed eight closed circuit TV cameras and ten video cameras and deployed 14 surveillance teams on rooftop.
DMP has also set up a police control room on the second floor of Bangabandhu National Stadium.
A bomb disposal team, several women police teams, detectives' team in plainclothes will also be put on standby, Walid said, adding that the police will be equipped with water cannons, armour personal carrier, prison vans and drinking water trailers in the area.
Rab and DMP sources said the intelligence teams have been working in the area and the police and Rab teams searched the area with metal detectors and the dog squad yesterday.
The police also carried out pre-deployment rehearsal in presence of the DMP commissioner yesterday.
