Stalking triggers clash in Sylhet Polytechnic
Alleged sexual harassment of a female student by a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader of Sylhet Polytechnic Institute led to a clash on campus yesterday that left 10 activists wounded.
Witnesses said general students brought out a procession on the campus and held rally condemning the sexual harassment of a female student of Computer Science on May 13 by Saikat Chandra Rimi.
They branded Rimi and his associates extortionists and stalkers. A memorandum was submitted to the principal demanding expulsion of Rimi and his associates from the institute.
BCL activists attacked the demonstrators with lethal weapons triggering the clash. At least 10 BCL activists were wounded.
BCL leader of the institute Zahirul Alam dismissed the allegation against Rimi. He said the demonstration was orchestrated by Shibir and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
