50 hurt, 200 shops ransacked

At least 50 people were injured and about 200 shops ransacked during a clash between two groups of locals at Chowdhury bazaar under Rajnagar upazila on Wednesday night.
According to police and locals, trader Hasem Miah of Tarachong village locked in an altercation with customer Mohsin Miah of Porchokor village at Chowdhury bazaar.
At one stage, people of Hasem and Mohsin joined them turning it into a fierce clash. Police brought the situation under control at about 10:00 pm.
Of the injured, rickshaw-puller Shawkat Miah,35,was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital and Taskir Miah, joint secretary of Chowdhury Bazaar Traders Association was admitted to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. Others were treated at Rajnagar upazila health complex.
Mokhlesur Rahman, UNO of Rajngar and Shyamol Kumar Nath, Additional Police Superintendent of Moulvibazar have visited the spot.
Jamal Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajnagar police station said, no case was filed in this connection till filing of the report yesterday noon.
