Two killed in road accidents
At least two people were killed in separate road accidents in Tangail and Narsingdi yesterday.
Our correspondent from Tangail reports: A minor indigenous girl was killed in a road accident on Tangail-Mymensingh highway at Telki in Madhupur upazila yesterday.
The victim was identified as Rangshil Nokrek, 5, daughter of Biplob Dheu of Telki village in the upazila. She was a class one student of local a preprimary school.
Sub-inspector Mohammad Yunus Ali of Aronkhola police outpost in Madhupur said the accident took place around 6:00pm when a Mymensingh-bound watermelon-laden truck from Bogra hit the Garo child from behind when she was walking along with her mother to their house at Telki, leaving her dead on the spot.
Madhupur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Shahjalal said police seized the truck from near Rasulpur police check post in the same upazila. But its driver and helper managed to escape.
A correspondent from Narsingdi adds: One person was killed and another seriously injured when a motorcycle and a Nasimon, a shallow engine-run vehicle, collided head-on on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Shahe Protab in Narsingdi Sadar upazila yesterday.
The dead was identified as motorcyclist Liton Sarker, 38, and the injured Nur Mohammad, 32.
Narsingdi Sadar Model thana OC Nazrul Islam said Liton was a contractor.
Injured Nur Mohammad has been admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
