3 instructors of Sylhet PTI transferred
Three instructors of Sylhet Primary Training Institute (PTI) were transferred yesterday on the basis of the report of a probe body formed by the authorities concerned following agitation by the trainees on April 16.
The instructors are Idris Ali Khan, Dipankar Mohanta and AKM Ibrahim. Idris was transferred to Jamalpur, Dipankar to Gaibandhga and Ibrahim to Sunamganj. The report also recommeded immediate transfer of the superintendent of the institute.
The trainee teachers staged agitation on April 16 protesting 'misbehaviour' of the three instructors with them and demanding withdrawal of show cause notices issued on them by the authorities.
On April 17, over 400 teachers submitted a memorandum to the deputy director of primary education, Sylhet, demanding immediate withdrawal of the instructors and the show cause notices. They also gave a copy of the memorandum to the deputy commissioner, and the city mayor.
On the following day, a three-member probe committee headed by the superintendent of Sunamganj PTI was formed. The two other members are ADC (Education) of Habiganj and assistant district primary education officer of Moulvibazar.
The member of the committee visited the institute on April 20 and talked with the trainee teachers. The trainees filed complaints with the probe body, saying the three instructors often misbehave with them and use abusive language in the classes.
The trainee teachers told the committee that the PTI authorities served show cause notices on them on the basis of their (instructors) false allegations.
The probe body filed its report to the deputy director of primary education, Sylhet, the same day.
Meanwhile, a 72- hour hunger strike by the trainers, officials and employees of Sylhet Women's Technical Training Centre (SWTTC) ends at 8:00am today. They began the strike at 8:00am in front of the institution on Tuesday demanding their arrear salaries and continuation of jobs under the new project.
The trainees of the centre staged a human chain at local Shahid Minar on Tuesday, expressing solidarity with the demands of the trainers, officials and employees of the institution.
The SWTTC was established under a development project at Alampur of Dakshin Surma in 2006. The three-year project ended in June 2009 and the staff of the centre have remained unpaid since then although the labour and employment ministry asked them to continue their services, sources in the centre said.
