Biman resumes London flight after a week
Biman yesterday resumed its flight to London almost after a week as aircraft start taking to the skies again in Europe following disruption caused by the volcanic ash cloud, officials concerned said.
The London bound flight of the state-owned carrier with 217 passengers took off at about 11:50 am.
Biman officials said the flight, BG 015, is expected to reach there at 2:00 am today.
“We have resumed the flight to London after European airspace reopens for business,” said Mohammad Nasim, deputy general manager (public relations) of Biman.
It is Biman's first flight to London since the European authorities closed skies on safety concern amid eruption of the volcanic ash.
It cancelled three flights to London since April 15 to the frustration of 867 Europe bound travellers.
Nasim said Biman has already sought three slots from Heathrow airport authorities to facilitate travel of the passengers stranded for cancellation of the flights.
“We hope to get the slots,” he added.
The carrier operates five weekly flights to London with three flights directly and two via Dubai.
