Diarrhoea situation improving
The diarrhoea situation in the capital has been improving gradually, the record of the patients' admission to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) shows.
The number of the patients' admission, which was more than 900 per day two weeks back, has now reduced to less than 800.
On an average, 32 patients are visiting the hospital per hour, the ICDDR,B sources informed adding that some 547 patients sought treatment at the hospital until 6:00pm yesterday.
A total of 718 patients visited the hospital on Sunday, which was 784 on Saturday, they said.
Meanwhile, a five-month-old boy Fahad who was suffering from diarrhoea died on his way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Fahad was taken to Dhaka Shishu Hospital yesterday morning from city's Merul Badda. As his condition deteriorated, the doctors referred him to the DMCH, said his father Faroque Hossain, a garment worker.
Doctors declared Fahad dead immediately after he was taken to the DMCH, he added.
A significant number of diarrhoeal patients have died at the DMCH this year, which the hospital sources said that most of them were brought dead.
