Student killed for protesting driving on playground
A university student was hacked to death by a gang of criminals at Fatulla in Narayanganj on Wednesday just because he protested their riding a motorcycle into a field where he along with his friends was playing cricket.
The victim was identified as Saiful Islam Khaiyam, 22, a student of engineering department at Dhaka United International University.
Police could not hunt down any of the killers till yesterday.
Saiful was the only son of Sharaful Islam, an employee of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation.
Sharaful has a flat at government staff quarters at Panchaboti in Fatulla where his daughter now lives. Saiful used to visit his sister at times and stay there.
On Wednesday afternoon, Saiful and his friends were playing cricket at a field in Shashangaon area of Fatullah . A local miscreant named Paban rode a motorcycle into the field at the time. This led to an altercation between the two sides, according to witnesses.
Police and local people said Paban and his accomplices attacked Saiful and his friends with sharp weapons and sticks on their way back in the evening. Saiful died on the spot.
Police recovered his body and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The victim's father filed a murder case with Fatulla Model Police Sation.
Contacted, Officer -in -Charge of the police station Jibon Kanti Sarker said they picked up three friends of Saiful to collect information on the incident.
