Nasrine R Karim (nee Choudury), a fashion and publishing icon, passed away at Royal Marsden Hospital in London on Wednesday, says a press release.
Born on September 17, 1949 in Comilla, Nasrine was the managing director of Dia House of Fashion Ltd., which, apart from being the trailblazer in fashion, also publishes the popular lifestyle magazine Dia ASIANA.
In addition, she headed Rasheed Enterprises Ltd. and Rubber Plantation and Dialink Ltd., an infrastructure development company.
Nasrine was widely known for her work with the NGO Earth Identity Project to educate underprivileged women and street children, and assist vulnerable groups afflicted with Arsenic contamination.
She was also the executive director of Humayun Rasheed Choudhury Foundation, named after her father who was a former speaker, founding president of Russia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and secretary general of the Commonwealth Society of Bangladesh.
Per her wishes, Nasrine will be buried in Comilla beside her maternal grandparents tomorrow.
Nasrine leaves behind her husband, former banker and Ambassador Iftekhar Karim, son Mishal Karim, mother Mehjabeen Choudhury, and brother Nauman Choudhury.
The time for her namaz-e-janaza will be announced once the flight from Heathrow is confirmed.
