Road crashes kill 14
Fourteen people were killed and 40 others injured in separate road accidents across the country in the last two days.
Our staff correspondent in Chittagong reports: Four people were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Padua Pathan Shah Gate area under Lohagara upazila in the district on Wednesday.
The dead were identified as Jony Das (1), 16, son of Swapan Das, Jony Das (2), 19, son of Subhas Das, Priyotosh Chowdhury, 18, and Jalal Ahmed, 30, while the injured were Nobel Sikder, 18, and Gourango Das, 14.
The accident took place when the driver of a Cox's Bazar-bound jeep lost control and hit six pedestrians at around 6.30am.
Our correspondent in Mymensingh adds: Three people were killed and three others injured in a road accident on Mymensingh-Sherpur road at Majhipara in the district on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Sohel, 14, Sumon, 25, and Khorshed, 25.
The accident took place at around 3:00pm when a Mymensingh-bound sand-laden truck from Haluaghat collided head-on with a human hauler, killing the three passengers on the spot and injuring three of their co-riders.
Angry locals set fire to the truck but its driver managed to escape. They also ransacked several vehicles on the road and put up a barricade on the road for several hours, disrupting vehicular movement.
Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The injured, identified as Emdadul Haque, 25, Saiful Islam, 26, and Masud, 21, were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).
Our staff correspondent in Bogra adds: Two people were killed in a road accident in Fatki Bridge area at Shahjahanpur in the district yesterday noon.
The dead were identified as Atail Ward 4 Jubo League President Md Sohel Rana, 38, and rice trader Abdul Awal, 40.
The accident took place when a Dhunat-bound bus hit the motorcycle the two were riding on, killing them on the spot.
Our correspondent in Brahmanbaria adds: Two people were killed and 25 others inured in a road accident Nabinagar-Companyganj Road at Nabinagar in the district early Wednesday.
The dead were identified as Sadek Mia, 20, and Nasir Mia, 18.
The accident took place when a truck that was carrying a team of labourers lost control and fell into a roadside ditch.
The injured were rushed to Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex.
Our correspondent in Chapainawabganj adds: A schoolgirl was killed and six others injured as a truck hit a cart drawn by horses at Shibtala in Chapainawabganj town on Wednesday afternoon.
The dead was identified as Sagori Khatun, daughter of one Raisuddin and a student of class X of Shibganj Girls' High School.
Our correspondent in Rangpur adds: A schoolboy was killed and four others critically injured in a road accident at Ganeshpur yesterday.
The dead was identified as Arif Hossain, a student of class IX of Rangpur Shishu Niketan.
The accident took place at about 9:00am when a Panchagarh-bound BRTC bus hit them while Arif and his friends were taking snacks at a roadside shop on their way home from the school.
Arif died on the spot while the injured were taken to Prime Medical College and Hospital.
The condition of Badhan was stated to be critical.
A correspondent in Kishoreganj adds: A man was killed in a road accident at Tarail in the district on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Safir Uddin, 45.
The accident took place when the victim fell down under the wheels of a human hauler while trying to get on board.
He was rushed to Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries early yesterday.
