Audit finds huge graft in Biman
Internal audit has unearthed huge corruption in Bangladesh Biman that crippled the state-owned airliner.
The audit conducted in February for the period of September 2006 to January 2007 revealed irregularities in the transport department and misappropriation by way of manipulation of bank pay orders, postal receipts of road taxes, fitness taxes and other transactions.
The audit report identified the corrupt officials and recommended actions against them. But no action has been taken.
The report mentioned that Biman incurred huge losses as the corrupt officials of the transport department drew money from the Biman account by using same pay orders several times. Bank pay orders and money receipts have been tampered.
The corrupt syndicate maintaining unholy collaboration with BRTA officials showed payment of road tax of a vehicle more than once. Biman has about 160 vehicles.
Khan Mosharaf Hossain, deputy general manager (transport) of Biman, told UNB that he is aware of the audit report. He said the financial irregularities mentioned in the report are under investigation.
“Actually, the audit report has been submitted to the director (admin) and they are investigating into the irregularities,” he added.
