5 stolen cars seized from Srimongal, 2 arrested

Detective Branch of Police recovered five stolen cars and arrested two alleged businessmen of stolen cars from a village under Srimongal upazila in Moulvibazar early hours of Sunday.
The arrestees were identified as Rupak Dev Roy, 44, and Mohammad Rajib, 26, of Srimongal.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Moklesur Rahman told The Daily Star that they conducted a drive at Purbasha village in Srimongal with a view to recovering a car stolen from Gulshan in the city but they found four more cars from the possession of these two members of a syndicate involved in stolen car business.
He said they conducted the drive after driver Alamgir Hossain fled with a car from Gulshan on March 3 and later sold it to these arrestees.
"Alamgir earlier stole two cars from the city's Tikatuli and Elephant Road in one year", Muklesur said, adding, "He takes the job of a driver and takes away the vehicle after one or two months." Alamgir is now on the run.
Muklesur said the arrestees had been running the stolen car business in the name of old vehicle trading.
