Health minister visits ICDDR,B
Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque yesterday visited the diarrhoea patients at the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR, B) and said unsafe drinking water is one of the main reasons for the disease.
The minister said diarrhoea has broken out earlier this year due to excessive hot weather.
Ruhal suggested that people living far off ICDDR,B should take their patients quickly to the nearby hospitals as dehydration deteriorates the patient's condition.
He also said private and public hospitals are experienced enough to handle the diarrhoea patients.
Sources said at present some 38 patients are coming to ICDDR,B for treatment every hour.
Most of the patients are from Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Rampura, Badda, Khilkhet, Bashabo, Narayanganj and Demra.
Hospital authorities said a total of 933 patients visited the hospital Saturday while the toll rose to 727 yesterday until 6:00pm.
