Govt violating constitution
The Awami League government has been violating the constitution by signing agreements with other countries, BNP leader Moudud Ahmed said yesterday.
In the future, the people under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would put an end to "the misrule of the AL government", he said as the chief guest at a conference of the party's union level grassroots representatives at Titu Auditorium in Bogra.
National Press Club President Shawkat Mahmud, former pro-vice chancellor of the National University Ershad Majumder, Dr Rezwan Siddiqui, poet Abdul Hye Shikder, Prof Dr Md Moinul Hasan Sadik and Abdul Momin Talukder Khoka MP also spoke at the conference presided over by former speaker and lawmaker Jamiruddin Sircar.
However, no leaders from grassroots level spoke at the conference.
The speakers said the people are suffering from severe power, water and crisis while Chhatra League and Jubo League are engaged in tender manipulation and violence. Instead of taking action, the administration is indirectly cooperating with the tender manipulators, they alleged.
They also hinted that an announcement of a tough movement against the government may come from the grand rally in Dhaka on May 19.
Opposition Chief Whip Joynal Abdin Farroque, Asadul Habib Dulu, Mizanur Rahman Minu, Amanullah Aman, Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Fazlul Haq Milon, Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu and local leaders were present at the conference.
More than 1,000 leaders and workers from Bogra, Sirajganj, Gaibandha and Joypurhat took part in the daylong programme.
