4 Barisal Jamaat, Shibir activists arrested
Police yesterday arrested four activists of Jamaat-Shibir as they bought out a procession in the city streets
violating Section 144 imposed by Barisal Police Commissioner.
The authorities imposed 144 banning any rally, meeting or gathering on the Barisal Women Club premises to restore law and order.
The arrested activists were Abdus Samad, 55, Saiful Islam 25, Nesaruddin and Rezaul Karim.
Police issued the order as three organisations announced separate meetings on Barisal Women Club premises at the same time.
However, no meeting or gathering was held on the club premises and the situation was normal.
At a press conference at its city office yesterday, District Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal urged the government to act democratically.
The ban on any rally or procession was imposed as Jamaat-e- islami, Bangladesh Chhatra League and Muktijoddha Sangsad made separate announcements to hold their programmes at the same time on Barisal Women Club premises.
