Principal indeed!
One hundred and six students of Gour Bangla Syeda Maria Moumuna Krishi College in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district could not appear at the examinations that started on March 22 under Bangladesh Technical Education Board allegedly due to alleged corruption of the college principal.
The students yesterday submitted a memorandum to the education minister through Chapainawabganj deputy commissioner demanding punishment of the principal for 'loss of their valuable academic period and misappropriation of money'.
They were the first, third and fifth semester examinees under Bangladesh Technical Education Board but did not get admit cards in time, they said in the memorandum.
"The college principal took Tk 3,500 from each of us for filling up forms but just a day ahead of the examination we came to know that our forms were not sent to the board. The principal misappropriated a total of Tk 3 lakh 70 thousand from us," reads the memorandum.
"As we informed Shibganj upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of the matter, he talked to the board authorities and made arrangements for our sitting for the examination. But after two days the board authorities ordered stopping our examinations through a fax message to the UNO," it adds.
Later on Tuesday, the victims complained to Chapainawabganj deputy commissioner and Shibganj upazila nirbahi officer and the latter formed a three-member probe committee headed by Shibganj upazila secondary education officer on Wednesday.
The three-members probe committee yesterday visited the college and talked to the examinees about the matter.
This correspondent could not take the principal's version on the matter despite making several attempts as nobody received the calls over cellphone.
