High-rises must have solar panel
A parliamentary body yesterday suggested formulating a law making it mandatory to install solar panels on high-rise buildings to be built from now on.
The parliamentary standing committee on public undertakings also cautioned power and energy ministry and other authorities about their duties.
"We will not hear any excuse if any respective authority fails to do their jobs [regarding generation of power]," ABM Ghulam Mostafa, chairman of the committee, told reporters after a meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The committee has asked the authority concerned not to allow any individual or organisation to build any high-rise building if they do not have any plan for installation of solar panels, Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal, a member of the committee, said.
Those who can purchase a flat or build a high-rise building spending crores of taka, will also be able to install a solar panel, Badal, also a Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker, said.
It asked officials of the energy ministry to make a detailed plan along with a time frame to produce 9,276 megawatt power by 2015.
