Shibir leader held, 31 other Jamaat-Shibir men get bail
Police arrested a Shibir leader in Pabna on Tuesday while a court granted bail to 31 Jamaat-Shibir men in Sylhet yesterday.
Our Correspondent in Pabna reports: Police arrested Rajshahi city unit Chhatra Shibir leader from his village home in Sujanagar upazila on Tuesday night in connection with Rajshahi University (RU) violence.
Arrestee Md Monsur Ali,20, is son of Seken Ali of village Bolorampur in the upazila.
Monsur is a student of Islamic Studies Department at Rajshahi University and Shibir's president of ward 25. He was absconding after the RU violence.
Sujanagar police raided his village home and arrested him at about 10:30 pm.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sujanagar police station ABM Zahidul Islam said Monsur will be sent to Rajshahi. He was absconding after the RU violence, the OC said.
Our Staff Correspondent in Sylhet reports: The district judge yesterday granted ad interim bail to 31 leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and Shibir in a police assault case filed on February 12.
Central assistant secretary Dr Shafiqur Rahman, also Jamaat's former Sylhet city ameer, city ameer Ehsanul Mahbub Zobayer and secretary Sirajul Islam Shahin, city Shibir secretary Shahriar Alam Shipar and others appeared before the court of district and sessions judge Md Momin Ullah. The court granted them ad interim bail.
Earlier, a high court bench asked the authorities not to arrest or harass them for 8 weeks as they appeared there on February 17.
