Day Before CVASU Opening

BCL confines VC to house, locks office

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists yesterday confined the Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) to his residence and locked his office demanding his resignation.
Academic activities of the university are scheduled to resume today around three and a half months after the university was closed sine die on December 14 last year.
Sources said the BCL activists also threatened teachers, students and officials not to cooperate with VC Prof Nitish Chandra Devnath.
Contacted, Prof Nitish yesterday said, “Neither I resigned nor the government removed me. The university will reopen tomorrow and I will go to my office.”
BCL university unit convener Kamol Kanti Majumder said BCL activists will continue to put the VC office under lock and key and besiege him until
their demands are met.
The authorities closed the university for an indefinite period as some students under the banner of General Students Forum and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) had enforced an indefinite strike demanding removal of the Vice Chancellor on charge of corruption and nepotism in recruitment of staff.
