“Issue of 1971 war crimes”
The DS editorial on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 entitled "Issue of 1971 war crimes: Time has come to deal with anti-liberation elements" includes "Matters were then carried to ludicrous heights by a retired civil servant, an unabashed Jamaat follower, when he stated that in 1971 it was a civil war and not a War of Liberation which took place in Bangladesh."
This statement is a distortion of fact. The text of the said talk show has been reported in your daily on Sunday, October 28, 2007 with the title "There was no genocide; it was a 'civil war'. The report describes Mr. Shah Abdul Hannan's statement as "I frankly think it was a liberation war but it was also a civil war not only in the sense that it was between West and East Pakistan but also because it was a fight between political forces supporting a untied Pakistan and an independent Bangladesh.”
Neither in that talk show, nor elsewhere, Mr. Shah Abdul Hannan denied the liberation war.
