Police van turns turtle: 1 killed, 34 wounded
A police constable was killed and 34 policemen were injured as a bus carrying them turned turtle near Ramna Park in the capital yesterday.
The deceased was Jahangir Alam, 27, a constable of company-4 at Rajarbagh Police Lines.
Police said a police team of 42 was returning to Rajarbagh Police Lines on board a requisitioned bus around 4:45am, after patrol duty at Dhanmondi and New Market areas. The bus hit the central reservation near Ramna Chinese Restaurant at Ramna and turned turtle leaving nearly all the passengers injured.
When Jahangir was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), doctors declared him dead.
Of the injured, nine are undergoing treatment at DMCH, two at National Institute of Traumatology, Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation and seventeen at Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital.
The driver of the bus is absconding.
