Red Crescent to seek Tk 140cr in int'l aid
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society will make an appeal for Tk 140 crore international assistance to carry out relief and rehabilitation work in the cyclone-hit coastal districts.
The local chapter of the humanitarian organisation has decided to launch the appeal through International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
"With the money from donors, Red Crescent will carry out relief and rehabilitation activities for a period of two years," an official announcement yesterday said following a meeting, with Red Crescent Chairman Prof Dr Mohammad Abdur Rab in the chair.
According to the plan, Red Crescent will provide the worst-affected one lakh families with food and other essentials for one year and build them 5,000 houses.
It will create jobs for the lower income people in the next phase.
Under the comprehensive post-cyclone programme, the Red Crescent will also provide medical care for 243,000 families, safe drinking water and drainage system for one lakh families and temporary shelter for 30,000 families.
