Team East take big lead
Team East dominated the proceedings over Team North with a 279-run lead on the second day's play of the final round Challengers Cup match at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium yesterday.
After East declared their first innings on 309-9, North could muster only 108-9 in reply. Paceman Suhash Ahmed could not bat due to a hand injury.
East captain Debabrata Paul did not enforce the follow-on and his side were 78-4 in the second innings at stumps.
Only wicketkeeper-batsman Arman Hossain stood tall, stroking twelve boundaries in his unbeaten 71 but found no other partner in the face of some hostile bowling from skipper Debabrata, who claimed four wickets for 28 runs while leg-spinner Raihanuddin took two.
But North fought back with paceman Gazi Alamgir adding one wicket in the four that fell in the East second innings. Earlier, lanky Alamgir took four wickets for 55.
In the day's other match at the BKSP, Team South were in a commanding position against Team West as they declared their first innings at 355 for 9.
In reply, Team West were trailing by 262 runs, on 93-2 at stumps.
