Five killed, 10 injured in road accidents
At least five people, including a Brac employee, were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj and Manikganj yesterday and Friday night.
OUR CORRESPONDENT from Sirajganj reports: At least four people, including an infant were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj yesterday and Friday night.
Police and witnesses said three people were killed and 11 others injured when a Pabna-bound bus from Dhaka hit a tempo, locally known Nasimon, from behind in Patdhari area on the Dhaka-Pabna highway in Ullapara upazila yesterday. Two died on the spot.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals in Sirajganj and Dhaka. Of them, Firoz Sheikh, 40, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital in Dhaka. Two other deceased were identified as Asraf Ali, 60, of Purbodelua village and Sakhawat Hossain, 42, of Raninagor village in Ullapara upazila.
On the other hand, Lipi, 5, of Shomeshpur village in Belkuchi upazila was killed when a passenger bus crushed her in the Shomeshpur bus station area on the Sirajganj-Belkuchi road on Friday night.
Police sent the bodies to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Our correspondent from Manikganj adds: A female employee of Brac was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Manikganj-Jhitka road at Gilondo bus stand in Manikganj Sadar Upazila yesterday.
The victim was identified as Rozina, 20, daughter of Bhaban Ali of Sorupai village in Manikganj Sadar Upazila. She was an employee of Ayesha Abed Foundation of Brac at Gilondo in Manikganj.
Family sources said Rozina was going to her workplace at Gilondo in a bus from Jhitka.
Witnesses and police said the victim was crushed under the wheels of a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Jhitka at around 8:30am as she fell on the road while coming out of her bus near her office.
The dead body was taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
Police seized the bus but its driver and staff managed to escape. A case has been filed in the Manikganj Sadar Police Station in this regard.
