Euro holds up against dollar
The euro held up against the dollar on Wednesday as Greece moved to announce extra measures to slash its public deficit, dealers said.
In morning trading here, the European single currency rose to 1.3623 dollars, from 1.3611 in New York late on Tuesday, when the European unit had briefly tumbled to a nine-month low on concerns about Greece.
Against the Japanese currency the dollar eased to 88.74 yen, from 88.77 yen late on Tuesday.
"It hardly matters any longer whether good or bad US data is being published. Greece remains the dominant driver for euro/dollar," said Commerzbank analyst Antje Praefcke in a note to clients.
"There is the possibility of positive news from Greece supporting the euro today.
