China keen to construct bridge over Jamuna
China is eager to construct a bridge over the mighty river Jamuna at Balashi Ghat point in Gaibandha to further facilitate the communications system of Bangladesh.
Apart from this, China also has expressed its eagerness to build a permanent structure for the Dhaka International Trade Fair with underground car parking facilities at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
The assurance came when Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Xian Yi called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Jamuna in the city on Tuesday evening.
After the meeting, Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister M Nazrul Islam briefed the newsmen.
During the meeting, Yi said his government would take joint initiatives with Petrobangla of Bangladesh for exploration of hydrocarbon.
Besides, he also assured Hasina of providing technical support for the agriculture sector, including innovating highbred seeds, for further increasing the rice production to ensure the food security of Bangladesh.
In this context, he also assured Bangladesh of providing agricultural equipment and support for the food processing sector.
During the meeting, Hasina proposed the Chinese government for taking a tri-partite initiative involving Bangladesh, China and Myanmar for producing fertiliser and power using gas in Myanmar for the benefit of the peoples of three countries.
Regarding the proposed deep sea port, she said both China and Bangladesh could be benefited by using the port in future that would help reduce distance of China in transporting goods significantly.
Besides, the entire gamut of bilateral and regional issues, including the PM's upcoming visit to China from March 17 to 21, came up for the discussion prominently.
Describing China as a trusted friend of Bangladesh, Hasina expressed her hope that the relations between the two countries would be further consolidated in the days to come.
In this context, she said the Chinese contribution to the Bangladesh's development efforts is immense and that cooperation would be expanded in future as mark of mutual friendship of the two people.
Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Ambassador At-Large M Ziauddin, Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Molla Waheeduzzaman and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Abdus Sobhan Golap were present on the occasion.
