25 students at women's madrasa fall unconscious
Twenty-five students of Navarone Women's Madrasa in Sharsha upazila fell unconscious in the classrooms yesterday noon.
As the panicked students left classrooms and started running helter skelter, teachers and guardians quickly took the affected girls to Navarone Hospital.
"Two students felt headache in the classroom at about 11:00am they were given first aid. After about two hours, 25 other students of class six, seven and eight fell unconscious all on a sudden," said madrasa Principal Aminur Rahman.
Sharsha upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Dr Abdul Hakim visited the madrasa and the hospital and ordered quick treatment of the affected students.
"The students have been affected by mass hysteria. It occurs due to malnutrition, fear and physical weakness. The disease can be cured by proper treatment and rest," Dr Momtaz Uddin, on-duty doctor at the hospital, said.
Authorities instantly announced suspension of classes at the madrasa.
