Promote research-based education: Dilip Barua
Industries Minister Dilip Barua yesterday called for the research-based and coherent education to promote the standard of higher education side by side with upholding the country's culture and tradition.
He said this while he was speaking as the chief guest at the concluding session of a four-day debate competition 2010 at the Muktamanch of Jahangirnagar University last night.
Jahangirnagar University Debate Organisation (JUDO) organised the competition from February 18 to 21 in memory of the Language Movement martyrs.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir addressed the function as the special guest. Pro-Vice Chancellors Prof Dr Md Farhad Hossain and Prof Dr Md Maniruzzaman and Proctor Md Arzu Mia also spoke at the function.
A total of 50 debaters from public and private universities, medical colleges and colleges participated in the contest. The function was followed by prize distribution and a reception.
Dilip Barua called for increased interaction among teachers, students and policymakers for further promotion of the country's culture and dignity at home and abroad.
"This kind of contest will greatly help development of co-curricular activities in the educational institutions and also in the governance" he added.
Describing the immortal Ekushey as the source of strength for pro-people governance, he said February 21 in 1952 sowed the seed of movement for the liberation of Bangladesh from the clutch of Pakistani centrists.
This movement has eventually turned into a political movement to emancipate the people from the shackles of Pakistani autocratic rule, he added.
Speakers at the function praised the activities of JUDO saying such an initiative would immensely help promotion of research-based education leading to national advancement.
"We believe in maintenance of good debate practice and Jahangirnagar University will do better in future to carry forward the vision of Digital Bangladesh to its coveted goal," said Dr Shariff.
