Cop dies as robbers' van hits police car

A policeman was killed and four of his colleagues were injured as robbers' pickup truck sideswiped and overturned a police van at Rajghat of Abhaynagar upazila in Jessore early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Nayek Yunus Ali of Abhayagar Highway Police Station. The injured are Shahbul, 48, Fazlur Rahman, 40, Ruhul Amin, 47, and Sunil Kumar, 55.
Locals said 15-20 robbers looted four cows from Faruq and Milon's house at Prambagh area in the upazila yesterday morning and tried to escape to Khulna on the pickup truck.
On information police were hot on their trail but the robbers managed to overturn the police van and flee leaving Yunus Ali dead on the spot and four others injured.
The injured were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
