Concern over HR violations in Pakistan
Members of the Bangladesh chapter of South Asians for Human Rights (SAHR) have expressed concern over violations of human rights taking place in Pakistan in the wake of the imposition of emergency.
They also called on the Pakistan government to immediately release those arrested for their involvement in the political movement since November 3 and withdraw all charges against them.
In a letter to the high commissioner of Pakistan sent on November 20, SAHR Co-Chair Dr Hameeda Hossain called on the Pakistan government to withdraw emergency and restore constitutional governance.
The SAHR also demanded restoration of the independence of the Pakistan Supreme Court and reappointment of judges who had been removed.
It also called for freedom of expression and withdrawal of restrictions on the electronic media.
