CA's relief fund receives Tk 1.55cr more
Many more organisations, business houses and individuals made donations and started relief operations for the cyclone-hit yesterday.
Of the donations, Tk 1.55 crore went to the Chief Adviser's Relief and Welfare Fund for the victims.
The organisations and individuals who contributed to the relief fund include Janata Bank-Tk 1 crore, Mercantile Bank-Tk 35 lakh, Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh-Tk 5 lakh, Bangladesh Steel Rerolling Mills Ltd-Tk 5 lakh, Gulshan Samity- Tk 2 lakh, Dhaka Shishu Hospital-Tk 1.37 lakh, chief adviser's office staff -Tk 75,107 (one day's salary), MA Mohaimin-Tk 1.5 lakh, M Nurun Nabi -Tk 1.5 lakh, IA Nasir and Sauma Nasir -Tk 1 lakh, Doria Nasir-Tk 1 lakh, M Hossain - Tk 50,000, Ayubur Rahman Bhuiyan-Tk 35,000, Shahnaz Begum-Tk 20,000, Jahan Ara Rahman-Tk 20,000, Hamim Khan -Tk 20,000 and Reaz Uddin M Chowdhury-Tk 10,000.
Rotary International District 3280 Bangladesh donated Tk 5 lakh to the special bank account opened by the Armed Forces Division for relief operation in the cyclone-hit areas.
Rotary is also working for more help from abroad -- medicines and food materials.
Emdadul Haq Faruk, an expatriate Bangladeshi in Japan, and his landlord Onisun jointly donated $11,000 (Tk 7,70,000) for the cyclone victims.
The money has been deposited in a bank account of Manjur Hasan, manager of Krishi Market Branch of Al-Arafah Islami Bank at Mohammadpur in the capital.
"Besides the donation from Japan, we have collected money from salaries of our staffs, and a truck carrying relief materials will go to Sharonkhola in Bagerhat tomorrow (Saturday),” Manjur Hasan told this correspondent.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) handed over 20 maunds of relief materials to the Armed Forces Division yesterday.
The relief goods include rice, lentil, potato, salt, match boxes, biscuits, sweaters, shirts, T-shirts, blankets and jackets, shorts and trousers.
Banglalink gave six truck-loads of relief materials including rice, lentils, chira and oral saline to the Bangladesh Army Task Forces in Barisal and Bagerhat yesterday.
Radio Today started relief operation funded by donation of one day's staff salary and contribution from the authorities.

A team from Dhaka Bar Association yesterday left for Barguna and Patuakhali with 1,000 pieces of saree and 1000 pieces of lungi for the affected people.
