6 factory workers among 10 killed in road crashes
At least ten people were killed and 65 others injured in separate road accidents in Narsingdi, Netrakona, Manikganj, Gaibandha and Magura yesterday.
Unb from Narsingdi reports: At least six workers of BSCIC industrial estate were killed and 20 people injured yesterday in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Boroitola in Shibpur upazila.
The dead are Shahnaj, 27, Rupa, 21, Iqbal, 40, Jakir, 30, Rajab Ali, 40, and Hamid, 25.
Police said the accident occurred at about 8:00am when a Bhoirab-bound truck carrying cattle from Rajshahi collided with a Narsingdi-bound minibus from Monohardi, killing four workers on the spot and injuring 22 people.
Shahnaj, Rupa, Iqbal and Jakir died on the spot while their two fellow workers Rajab and Hamid succumbed to their wounds at the district general hospital.
The other injured were rushed to the same hospital.
Later, five of them were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as their condition deteriorated.
Police seized both the vehicles while the drivers managed to flee.
A case was filed.
Our correspondent from Netrakona adds: One person was killed and 40 others were injured in separate road accidents in Kalmakanda and Durgapur upazila in the district yesterday.
One person was killed and 17 others were injured when a Netrakona-bound passenger bus from Durgapur turned upside down on Netrakona-Durgapur road at Rantritola and fell into a roadside ditch at about 9:00am.
Police said the incident occurred as the driver lost his control over the steering. The dead was identified as Nurul Islam, 55, of village Bagarhati under Durgapur upazila.
Of the injured, Arman Khan, Lokshan Mia, Nurunnabi, Saleha Khatun, Rahela Akter and Amena Begum were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Others were admitted to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex.
Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee.
At least 23 people were injured in a road accident on Kalmakanda- Netrakona road at Gotora Bazar under Kalmakanda upazila at about 12:30pm.
Police said the accident occurred when a Netrakona-bound passenger bus from Kalmakanda fell into a roadside ditch near Gotora Bazar while it was giving side to a passenger tempo, leaving 23 injured.
Of the injured, Abul Hossen, Sharafat Ali, Shahbaj Mia, Nurjahan Begum and Khadiza Khanam were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Others were admitted to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex.
Our correspondent in Manikganj said: An elderly woman was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Aricha high way at Manikganj bus stand yesterday.
The victim was identified as Sona Boru, 65, wife of late Azizur Rahman of Bathaimuri village under Ghior Police Station in Manikganj.
Witnesses and police said the accident occurred at around 11:00am when an Aricha-bound passenger bus from Dhaka hit the woman while she was crossing the road along with his elder son.
She was rushed to Manikganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Family sources said the elderly woman was returning home from the house of her elder son Hamidur Rahman at Joyra in Manikganj.
Police seized the bus but its driver and staff managed to escape.
Our Correspondent from Gaibandha adds: A motorcycle rider was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck at Chithulia on Shaghata-Gaibandha road yesterday.
Police said the accident took place when Parvez, 24, of village Chithulia Digor under Shaghata Upazila was traveling in a motorcycle. He was killed as a speeding truck hit his motorcycle from behind.
Our Correspondent from Magura adds: One person was killed and five others were injured in a road accident near Galakata bridge on Magura-Jhenidah highway yesterday.
The dead was identified as Abdus Salam, 50, an owner of a grocery shop in the Sadhuhati area in Jhenidah.
Police quoting witnesses said the accident occurred at around 2:30pm when a Kushtia-bound bus from Dhaka fell into a roadside ditch while trying to overtake a truck.
Of the injured, five were rushed to Magura Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
