Khulna mayor's bail petition rejected

A Khulna court yesterday rejected the bail petitions of detained Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman in eight cases filed against him on different charges.
After the hearing, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman turned down the bail petitions.
Tayebur was arrested in the capital on November 2. He was sent to Khulna district jail on November 11 on completion of his eight-day remand in two cases on charges of extortion and possessing illegal firearms.
The detained mayor, who was accused in eight cases, was shifted to Jessore Central Jail on November 12.
Besides, three general diaries were filed against him.
Officer-in-charge of Khulna Police Station Mesbauddin said the charge sheets of the two cases filed against the mayor under the Arms Act and the Narcotics Control Act would be submitted to the court either today or tomorrow.
