CU issues show cause notices to 4 engineers

Chittagong University (CU) syndicate yesterday issued show cause notices to the chief engineer and three superintendent engineers on charges of negligence.
The syndicate issued the notices at its 447th general meeting, with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Badiul Alam in the chair.
Sources said the syndicate issued the notices to Chief Engineer Md Alamgir Chowdhury and Superintendent Engineers Mohammad Ishaq and Md Mahfuzur Rahman on charges of negligence and irregularities.
Syndicate Member Sultan Ahmed said the three engineers were asked to estimate the cost for the removal of sand from Kanta Pahar area.
They estimated that the total cost will be Tk 1.85 lakh, but the outsiders, employed by the authorities, carried out the work at a cost of Tk 14,000, he added.
The syndicate also issued a notice to Superintendent Engineer AKM Khurshidul Islam. He was asked to estimate the cost for the construction of a garage for the VC's vehicles by five days, but he could not do it even in 15 days, sources said.
