One arrested over Pinky's suicide
Khulna police yesterday arrested the youth whose actions subsequently drove schoolgirl Nashfia Akand Pinky to commit suicide in Shyamoli Tuesday.
Police picked up Murad from Khalishpur where he was hiding in one of his relatives' house.
Pinky, a student of class IX of Shyamoli Ideal Technical School and College, hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her uncle's sitting room Tuesday. She used to live with her uncle's family Shyamoli.
According to Pinky's suicide note, Murad slapped her on the face in public.
The humiliation was too much to accept for such a young and sensitive mind.
Murad went into hiding immediately after Pinky committed suicide.
Ali Ashraf Akand, paternal uncle of the victim, filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Tuesday accusing Murad and security guard of Pinky's residence Abul Kalam.
Police arrested Kalam on the same day and sent him to jail.
During an interrogation in Khulna, Murad denied the allegation of setting the situation for Pinky to commit suicide.
He said Pinky committed suicide due to frequent torment over the last one year by her father, uncle and the members of the house for falling in love with him.
Murad also showed some of his photos with Pinky and her love letters to him during the interrogation.
Meanwhile, around 200 teachers and students of Pinky's school formed a human chain on Mirpur road for about two hours demanding trial and punishment to the accused.
Principal of Shyamoli Ideal Technical School and College MA Sattar said as the culprits had been arrested, teachers and students of the institution were demanding trial of the accused.
Officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station yesterday said Murad had been sent to Dhaka.
