Dr Zafar Iqbal injured in road crash

Eminent writer and professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, two of his colleagues and three others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway yesterday morning.
The accident occurred when a microbus carrying them collided head-on with a passenger bus at Madhabpur in Habiganj at 7:40am after the driver of the microbus lost control over the wheel, police and witnesses said.
Apart from Zafar Iqbal, the injured are Head of mathematics department in SUST Rashed Talukder, Associate Professor of the department Sujit Chakrabarti, President of Prothom Alo-Bandhusabha of SUST Munsi Misbah, General Secretary of the organisation Sourav Kumar Ghosh and Organising Secretary of Sylhet Bandhushova MD Mithun.
They were given first aid at Madhabpur Hospital but later Sujit Chakrabarti was admitted to Sylhet Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
The microbus started from Sylhet at 5:00am and was heading for the venue of Prothom Alo-Dutch Bangla Mathematics festival in Comilla.
Prof Zafar Iqbal had minor injuries to his knee.
