Chhatra Moitree demands arrest of Sunny's killers
Chhatra Moitree Rajshahi University (RU) unit yesterday staged demonstration on the campus demanding immediate arrest of the killers of Rezanul Islam Chowdhury Sunny.
Sunny, 22, a leader of Chhatra Moitree Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute unit, was killed in an attack by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men over establishing supremacy on the campus on January 7.
The leaders and activists of Chhatra Moitree brought out a procession on the campus wearing black badges. They also distributed leaflets among the students, urging them to raise voice against BCL activities at all educational institutions.
Addressing a rally at Kazla gate on the campus, the moitree leaders demanded immediate arrest of the BCL cadres responsible for the killing of Sunny.
They also threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme, including strike, at all educational institution across the country if the killers were not arrested within the next two days.
Moitree Convener Mazharul Islam Ripon, Rajshahi city unit Secretary Aksarul Islam Sumon, Organising Secretary Sirajul Islam Bipu, Chhatra Union Secretary Shipon and Moitree leader Rajan spoke at the rally.
Leaders of Chhatra Union, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (SCF), Jasod Chhatra League and Muktijoddha Santan Command expressed their solidarity with Chhatra Maitree.
Following the incident on January 7, BCL Rajshahi city unit dissolved the committee of Polytechnic Institute unit and expelled eight BCL men including institute unit president Nizam Uddin and general secretary Saddam Hossain Tushar.
Sunny, son of Monwarul Islam Chowdhury, Motihar upazila Awami League's information secretary and Shamima Monwar, acting vice president of city Mohila AL, was the student of computer department of the institute.
