Ex-army captain commits suicide

A former army captain committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf at his residence at Green Road in the city yesterday.
Capt (retd) Mahbubul Mannan, 36, was suffering from mental disorder for last few years, family sources said.
His brother Habibul Mannan said Mahbubul was found hanging from the ceiling fan at around 2:00pm. The main door was locked from inside and he was alone in his house.
Habibul said he knocked on the door for a long time, but there was no response from inside. Then he with the help of neighbours broke open the door only to find his brother hanging from the ceiling fan.
Officer-in-Charge of Kalabagan Police Station AKM Shaheen Mondol said Capt Mahbubul was sent into forced retirement in 2001 as he had been suffering from mental disorder.
Later, he joined a private firm but could not continue his job, as his condition deteriorated.
