SC hearing on appeals against HC verdict likely today
The Supreme Court is likely to hear today the appeals against the High Court (HC) verdict that declared illegal the fifth amendment to the constitution.
The matter has been enlisted as the 11th item in the cause list of the Appellate Division for hearing today.
On December 27, Justice SK Sinha, chamber judge of the apex court, set the date for its hearing.
Upon a writ petition, the HC on August 29, 2005, in a landmark verdict, declared illegal the fifth amendment to the constitution, meaning the regimes of Khandaker Moshtaque Ahmed, Abu Sadaat Mohammad Sayem and Maj Gen Ziaur Rahman from August 15, 1975 to April 9, 1979 were illegal.
