18 injured in attacks on JCD processions in Patuakhali
Eighteen people were injured in attacks on separate processions of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in the town here yesterday.
Witnesses said a procession, led by former minister and BNP leader Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, was brought out around 1:00pm, marking the 31st founding anniversary of JCD.
As the procession reached Gymnasium intersection, it came under attack by a group of Awami League (AL) activists, leaving at least 10 people injured.
The attackers also confined Altaf for an hour in a nearby private clinic. Later, police rescued him.
The BNP leader alleged that a group of AL cadres patronised by so-called reformist group of BNP attacked the procession.
Besides, eight people were injured as two factions of JCD attacked each other in court area in the morning.
Locals said two factions JCD brought out separate processions in the morning. As the two processions reached the court area, the processionists attacked each other.
Meanwhile, the local administration imposed section 144 in PDSA field and its surrounding areas, as three groups of JCD were supposed to bring out separate processions from the same venue at the same time.
