Stop lining up students on roads for reception
The government has directed educational institutions to stop the practice of making students line up on roads to welcome dignitaries, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said yesterday.
This custom must come to an end, he told journalists after an inter-ministerial meeting on the draft education policy at his ministry.
Nahid said the government already issued a notification forbidding closure of schools during visits of government officials.
Replying to a question, the minister said action will be taken if this directive is violated.
The education ministry yesterday announced an academic calendar for the coming year and asked educational institutions to start classes on the first working day in January.
"We do not want to waste a single day. Our main task now is to reach the textbooks to the students in time," he said.
On education policy, Nahid said all the ministries concerned have been requested to give their views on it within seven days so that the draft policy can be finalised.
He hoped that the final policy would be placed before the cabinet in the first week of next month.
The minister said although classes in educational institutions would remain closed on national days, the institutions have to remain open to arrange special programmes participated by students so that they can know the significance of these days.
