Trial at Feni adjourned till today
The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Special Court-3 in Feni adjourned till today its mutiny trial of 62 soldiers of 19 Rifle Battalion Headquarters under the Comilla Sector for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The court set 10:00am to resume its proceedings.
At the outset of the trial on first day, a three-member court led by BDR Director General Maj Gen M Mainul Islam and including Lt Col Akhtaruzzaman and Maj Maksudul Alam of the Comilla sector, read out a statement of accusation.
The accused BDR men were not put on the dock yesterday but would be brought today.
They are allowed to take assistance from an officer of the force or lawyer in their defence.
Dagonbhuiyan police filed a case charging the BDR jawans who expressed solidarity with the bloody rebellion in the Pilkhana BDR Headquarters in Dhaka.
The accused also allegedly fired blanks and blocked the Feni-Maijdee road on February 26.
Earlier, the Feni Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court sent the accused to jail after they were produced before it on May 14.
The first trial of mutiny started in Rangamati on Nov 24, followed by a trial in Satkhira on Dec 7.
The Feb 25-26 mutiny at Pilkhana killed over 73 people, 57 of them army officers deputed to the paramilitary force. The rebellion also spread to other BDR posts around the country.
On Nov 15, the government formed six special courts, including two in Dhaka, to try some 3,500 BDR men accused in some 40 cases around the country.
