Celebrating victory through volunteerism

Some 42 organisations, corporations, educational institutions, hospitals and other institutions celebrated the Victory Day at home and abroad on December 16 with the slogan 'Celebrating victory through volunteerism'.
The concept originated from the idea of celebrating the spirit of the freedom fighters by doing at least one act of voluntary service for the country, the organisers said in a press release yesterday.
Their programmes on the Victory Day included distribution of free medicines, setting up of a library at an orphanage, taking the poor school students to Wonderland, Liberation War Museum and the National Memorial at Savar, distribution of warm clothes and blood pressure measurement for poor people.
The organisations include Akij Group, Adcomm, Labaid Group, Institute of Business Administration of Dhaka University, United International University, Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals, Bangladesh Medical College and Bangladesh Cultural Organisation (of Norway), the press release said.
