Ziaur propels Mushtaque XI

Ziaur Rahman's big hitting display helped Shaheed Mushtaque XI to secure an exciting two-wicket victory against Shaheed Jewel XI in the Victory Day cricket match at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium yesterday.
The seniors actually won the battle against the juniors as the Bangladesh Under-19s, who are going to play the World Cup in New Zealand in January next year, played under the banner of Shaheed Jewel XI.
After Shabbir Rahman, Zia entertained the crowd most in the match, which was first organised in 1972 in memory of Liberation War martyrs Shaheed Abdul Halim Chowdhury Jewel and Shaheed Mushtaque Ahmed, as the right-hander clobbered three fours and as many sixes during his 22-ball 38 runs knock as Shaheed Mushtaque scored 230 runs for eight wickets in 43.2 overs in reply to 229.
Wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Mithun top scored with 56 off 64 balls that saw three boundaries while Shahriar Nafees smashed seven boundaries to score 30 off 24 balls.
Shaker Ahmed captured three wickets for 34 runs.
Earlier Shaheed Jewel XI rode on Shabbir Rahman's unbeaten 70 and Quazi Nurul Hasan's fifty to score 229 in 42.2 overs.
Shabbir smashed four boundaries and as many sixes in his 65-balls 70 while Nurul Islam struck eight boundaries in his 48 balls stay.
Kamrul Islam picked up three wickets for 28 runs.
