Plan for four satellite towns in a week

The government will announce a development plan for four satellite towns within a week, each having 1,00,000 apartments, surrounding the capital.
The satellite towns with high-rise buildings will be developed on a total of 590 square kilometer area under the Dhaka Details Area Plan.
“The gazette notification in this regard might be served within a week,” State Minister for Housing and Public Works Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan informed this while speaking at a roundtable on 'Green urbanisation' at Cirdap auditorium yesterday, says a press release.
He said the plan of vertical growth was undertaken to reduce pressure on cultivable lands.
Revealing the plan for satellite towns, he said the government was trying to come out of the culture of allocating plots and embark on developing high-rise buildings to allocate flats considering the growing number of population.
Energy and Power, a fortnightly magazine, in association with German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) organised the roundtable as part of a series in promoting green energy and energy-efficient technology in the country.
Prof Shamim Ara Hassan of Buet, Energy and Power editor Mollah Amzad Hossain, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission member Salahud Din Ahmed and Dr Khorshedul Islam of GTZ also spoke at the programme.
